Baba Had Scripture but No Way to Read It!

You helped Baba learn to read and treasure Scripture in his own language.

Baba is a grandfather who lives in a village in East Africa. His language is Rewe. Baba had a copy of the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Old Testament, in the Rewe language. He knew this book of Scripture was important. But he couldn’t study it even though it was in his own language because he didn’t know how to read. In fact, he even let his grandchildren play with it. They put the book down on the hard-packed clay ground and kicked it around in a sort of “kick the can” game.

That was three years ago. Your support is helping Baba learn to read what is in this precious book of Scripture! Baba is one of the first people learning to read!

Thanks to your generosity, a literacy specialist from Pioneer Bible Translators began working with the Rewe people. Together, they developed materials to help Rewe people learn to read their own language.

And Baba is one of the people learning to read!

Today Baba has a new copy of the Pentateuch, and he can encounter God in the language he understands best. Soon the whole Bible will be available in his language, and Baba will be able to read it for himself and his family! Thank you for helping provide God’s Word in the Rewe language and for supporting the literacy training for Baba and other people in his community. And praise God that Rewe people are encountering God through His Word!
